Multiple Intelligences Simplified–VIDEO

In describing what Unschooling is to a non-homeschooling person, the first misconception that I usually hear is something along the lines of, “But… People learn best in school. Why would you not want your kids to be where people learn best?”

To me, and all Unschoolers, school is not the best place for any person to learn best–ever. In fact, school is seldom the place for the vast majority of people to learn anything useful at all. It isn’t set up to teach people how people best learn. It’s only set up to teach people who learn in specific ways. This brings me to multiple intelligences.

Why does the theory of multiple intelligences matter to Unschoolers? Because we are constantly striving to understand ourselves and our children better. We know that everyone is smart in their own unique way, yet schools only teach to a minority.

Here is a Toastmasters talk that I gave on March 14, 2012 which is a simplified explanation of Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences.
