People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child–our own two eyes. All is a miracle. — Thich Nhat Hahn

LIST: Favorite Books that can help you become the parent your child deserves

While I highly recommend parents-to-be and parent of infants read this entire list, I’ve divided this list into five sections (General Parenting Resources, Parents-To-Be and Parents of Babies, Parents of Small Children, Parents of School Age Children, and Parents of Older/Teenage Children). I have decided to put all five lists together in hopes that it can be an easy print out guide to take to libraries and book stores. In case the list looks different today than the last time you looked, it changes as new books are written or discovered. Not enough time to read a book? Many of these titles can be found in audio book form at your public library.

I’ve left out all parenting books that label children or insist on helping parents make their children “right” and/or “normal”. I’m a firm believer that children are born perfect and only have “issues” when those around the child give normal behavior names. OTOH, learning how to mindfully parent exciting and excitable children is a skill that I’d bet 99.999% of new parents today have never learned (or even witnessed — I never had until I became active in Unschooling communities). These books can help. I find message boards and mailing lists to be even more pertinent and immediate. Find some that fit your needs.
