It is usually assumed that children who aren’t made to obey their parents will grow to be unruly, disrespectful, and ‘out of control’. Nothing could be further from the truth. Children who are treated with respect are respectful of others. Children who are listened to as equals listen to others as equals. Children whose opinions are valued value others’ opinions. A family where parents and children are allies is a peaceful family. — Rue Kream

Getting Ready for “Super Star Trek Sunday”!

My immediate family and I are not sports fans. Never have been and probably never will be. While we can appreciate other people enjoying sports, we don’t. [We've encouraged the kids to be sports fans, so they wouldn't be influenced by us, but they wouldn't have any of it. They know what they like and what they don't like.] What kinds of fans are we? Science Fiction Fans!

Every year on Super Bowl Sunday (which we always have to look up the date of since we pay such little attention to it), we, too, have a little party of our own. Ours is called “Super Star Trek Sunday”. We gather up Star Trek movies or Star Trek shows we want to watch, a whole bunch of fun party food, and we spend the afternoon watching glorious science fiction.

You, too, can make your own traditions. Don’t care for Thanksgiving? Don’t make the traditional dinner - have pizza. Don’t like April Fool’s Day? Don’t play jokes on others. Don’t care for Valentine’s Day madness? Surprise your sweetie on different days and tell her how you feel. Be your authentic self on holidays and celebration days. Just because everyone around you is celebrating a particular occasion, doesn’t mean that you need to. Don’t like Star Trek? Have a “Super MY FAVORITE MOVIES Sunday”. Make your favorite foods and have fun doing what you like best. Don’t like movies? Go hiking, biking, indoor skydiving, or whatever you want to do.

For us, we’ll be enjoying our Star Trek with smiles.

Qapla’ and Live Long and Prosper.
