Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Arizona
Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is in southern Arizona, right on the U.S./Mexico border. My family and I have been wanting to go there for a while and we recently had the opportunity. What surprised us the most was how few people we saw (only one other vehicle on the 22 mile loop). I was also surprised at how many saguaros there were — probably more saguaros than organ pipe cacti! Yet, we were thrilled when we spotted the arch! No one told us that was there. And, of course, we were tickled when we spotted a desert tortoise.
The bookstore at this park was one of the nicest we’ve seen at a national park. We saw many books that we’ve never seen elsewhere. We even had to buy one on desert holes (we are now starting to tell the differences between bunny holes, tarantula holes, lizard holes, and more).
