Blinds, Shades, and Curtains, OH MY!

Our current house was brand new when we purchased it nearly three years ago.  With the house came cheap metal blinds and valances (which I actually really love the colors of, so we’ve left them on almost all the windows).  Since the windows were technically covered, we haven’t spent a lot of time talking about them over the years.  Yet, in a discussion with my husband and oldest daughter recently, we realized that we’ve spent a lot of time covering them and thinking about them.  The blinds haven’t been enough to keep the sun out during certain times of the day that we don’t want light in (like when we are sleeping in the mornings and when we want to have an all day movie theater experience).

So, I started looking into our options.  I was pretty overwhelmed.  I don’t personally care for drapes, so those were a definite no for our living area.  Metal blinds weren’t doing the job.  Shades I’d previously seen always seemed too plastic-like for me.  I wanted something that looked nice (to me) and blocked out everything.

I found Blinds.com and was immediately thrilled with their searching options.  I was able to search by room, style, color, feature, need, or brand.  Since I knew my need (to completely black out a room), I started searching.  All options cost a lot more than I was expecting, so we pondered for over a month.  After yet another day of trying to darken our living room, we finally decided to make the purchase.

We bought 3/8″ double cell blackout shades in cinnamon for our living and dining room areas.  The shades went up in minutes and my husband has said, “This is the best purchase we’ve made in years,” to me almost every day since.  I agree completely.  With the add-on feature of no cords, these blinds are sleek and safe from little ones and critters.

We are thrilled with our new window coverings.  They are even environmentally friendly, since they are good insulators against heat and cold!  We’re also able to see MORE of the wonderful sky than we could with the old blinds (which covered more of the top of the window than these new ones do).

The service from Blinds.com was great and the turn-around time was quite quick (although teleportation would have been nice).  We’re looking forward to getting more coverings for our bedrooms next.  With their free color swatches, we’ve been able to see exactly what our options are, too.

Here are a few before and after shots of our new shades (all photos taken between 1:00-2:30PM in Arizona, so it was quite sunny):
