REVIEW: Star Trek: The Exhibition
My family recently had the pleasure of going to Star Trek: The Exhibition at the Arizona Science Center in Phoenix. This awesome traveling exhibit was fun for us since we’re all big Star Trek fans, although the promised shuttle simulation ride didn’t exist. The website made it clear that photographs and cell phones were not allowed in the exhibit, so we went only wearing regular clothes and our Star Fleet pins rather than our full Star Trek costumes.
As we entered the exhibit, we were immediately asked if we wanted to have our photos taken on their green screen. We said yes and they produced a lovely lenticular photograph of my family on an Enterprise transporter pad (this was done by a third party company, not the Science Center, and they’ve given me permission to post our photographs in this article). As we walked around the exhibit, we met up with the photographer again and he snapped a few shots of us on the Season Two Enterprise bridge from TNG. We wished we would have dressed up a bit more and made the most of it.
While there were few patrons there at the same time as us, there were Science Center employees scattered all around the exhibit ready to answer our questions, give us details on the props, and make sure that we didn’t do anything to harm the objects. We found the employees kind, knowledgeable, and thrilled to be there. We were invited to join The United Federation of Phoenix, which looks to be an interesting club that we would check out more if we lived closer.
As I researched this article, I was sad to see that this exhibit is actually torn apart into two completely different parts! So, we only got to see half of it while the other half (a fun half, too!!!) was in Detroit. The items that we saw did not seem at all to be the items that were in Las Vegas at the now-gone Star Trek: The Experience. Even still, we give the exhibit thumbs up all around — it was well worth our time, especially since we got to go through the rest of the Science Center, too.
