Overcoming Obstacles
The deeper I get into situations, the more obstacles I seem to stumble upon. This used to frustrated me a lot — often to the point that I gave up, deeming that the goal was just too difficult to achieve.
There are basically two positive ways to overcome an obstacle:
- Tackle it all at once.
- Whittle it down by accomplishing manageable steps one at a time.
Of course, you could always just give up. Sometimes that truly is the very best option, like in the case of an abusive spouse or so-called friend — leaving him/her and giving up on that relationship is almost always the best decision. However, in the case of becoming healthier or getting a grip on your finances, giving up isn’t what will make you happiest in the long run.
What obstacles are in your path? Presumably, you’ll get new ones every day. Is the thought of your dishes overwhelming you? Then just do one part — just put away the clean ones. Is the thought of your job sucking the life out of you overwhelming you? Then take the time to examine which parts you like and why. Is your health or weight weighing on you? Do one thing positive.
Don’t let your obstacles derail you from the path you want to be on. Ask for help if you need it. You can do anything you dream of — one step at a time. Remember that most overnight success stories were twenty years in the making.
